Many of our guests are lucky to see some spectacular wildlife at the lake including many species of Birds of Prey, Red Squirrels and Red & Roe Deer, some of our quieter guests have even spotted a wild boar! Limousin BullYour neighbours at the lake are the magnificent Limousin cattle with their distinctive russet colour, they often have a look over the fence to see what’s going on.For our non-fishing guests we offer many activities including horse riding, shopping trips to the capital of the area, Limoges or the beautiful town of Brive, or sightseeing some of the most stunning chateauxs. We can tailor make your holiday to suit you.

The Limousin is well know for it’s gastronomy and there is an amazing restaurant close to the lake
to suit all budgets.A maximum of 6 Carp rods fishing at any one time ensures safety to our fish and means their growth
rate increases.

Below is a potted history about us both. Julian started fishing in France for the first time in 1987 when he fished the river Lot, he very quickly became, pardon the pun, hooked !!!With 3 to 4 x 2 weeks trips per year it soon became apparent that France would be our future.
Nikki joined him in 1989 on her first fishing trip with a 2 week “holiday” fishing the Lot and also Salagou. That was the beginning of the end for any other holiday destinations !!  Having experienced several winter trips to Cassien (Christmas and New Year in a bivvy) and experiencing the huge waters such as Lac du Der Chanticoq, The Orient and Biscarrose, Julian & Nikki thought that there was a market for family fishing holidays but with maybe more comfort that she was used to, for example a loo/shower and a warm bed !! Hence the idea of what would become Birch Pool Retreat. We are extremly proud of what we have at Birch Pool and it certainly eclipses anything we could have
dreamt of all those years ago, we have put in a great deal of thought and hard work as to the accomodation and also the stocking programmes and the feed back we get form our guests confirm it really is a special little lake.

Julian continued his fishing here in France, fishing mainly on Lac du Curton, otherwise known as the
elusive Rainbow lake.

Sadly Julian lost his brave battle with cancer in 2016. Nikki continues to operate the lake with the same passion they both shared.
